  • Snow Removal Priority Overview

    The Village of Berwyn follows the order of priority below after a snowfall of 7 cm or greater. While extreme weather may impact timelines, the priority sequence remains the same as listed below. Thank you to residents for their patience and understanding as we deal with the heavy snowfall and our small Public Works crew works through these priorities. EMERGENCY ROUTES • Snow plowing and sanding begins within 24 hours of a snowfall of 7 cm or greater • All Village entrances are completed first: -East by the tower -South near Tower Park -West entrance past the MD of Peace Office -North entrance toward the gravel road exit SCHOOL BUS ROUTES • Snow plowing and sanding begins within 24 hours of a snowfall of 7 cm or greater and will be maintained as needed to maintain safe roadway width. RESIDENTIAL STREETS (Includes back alleys that serve as the only access to residences) • Snow plowing and sanding begins within 72 hours of a snowfall of 7 cm or greater. PARKING LOTS (Village Office and Fire Hall) • Snow plowing as required at the discretion of the Public Works Foreman following a snowfall of 7 cm or greater. INDUSTRIAL SECTION • Snow plowing will begin when severe drifting, rutting, or accumulated snow makes roads difficult or unpassable. OTHER BACK ALLEYS • Snow plowing will commence as needed at the discretion of the Public Works Foreman. Stay warm, everyone and thanks again for your patience and support!

  • Christmas Wishes & Holiday Hours

    The Village of Berwyn Council and staff wish all residents, community organizations, businesses, partners, and supporters a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We are so grateful for your support and community spirit shown throughout 2025, and we sincerely appreciate everyone who helps make Berwyn a great place to live and visit. We'd also like to send out a heartfelt thank-you to everyone involved in helping to organize and those who attended the Super Saturday celebration held last weekend. It was wonderful to come together as a community to celebrate the season. Please note that the Village Office will be closed to the public from December 23, 2025, to January 1, 2026, and will reopen on January 2nd. We wish you and your loved ones a wonderful holiday season and a joyful year ahead!

    The deadline to apply is December 31st -- Please share with anyone who this may benefit! Are you an adult enrolling or already enrolled in a medical or health-related program (in-person or online)? Or do you know a Grade 12 student enrolling in a healthcare program? The Grimshaw Regional Healthcare Attraction and Retention Committee Scholarship is here to help you pursue your dreams in healthcare! With a $3,000 scholarship, we’re encouraging students to live, study, and work in the region. Thanks to the generous support from the Village of Berwyn, Town of Grimshaw, MD of Peace and the County of Northern Lights, this scholarship is designed to support students who want to make a difference in the healthcare field, while contributing to the well-being of our local community. Four $3000 scholarships are available, and the application deadline is December 31, 2025.   • Snow Removal Notice

    Thank you to our residents for your support and patience as our Public Works team works hard to keep up with snow removal. We know this weather can be challenging, and we truly appreciate your understanding. Snow is expected to continue for the rest of the week, and our crew will be out as much as they can to keep up with it. It certainly looks like we will have a very white Christmas this year! Also, we are looking for kind-hearted volunteers to help shovel snow for senior residents who may need assistance this winter.   • Council Highlights - December 3, 2025

    Approval of Interim Budget Council approved the interim operating expenditures for 2026 effective January 1, 2026. These expenditures are based on the approved budget for 2025 and will remain in effect until the final operating budget for 2026 and the corresponding tax rate bylaw are adopted. Grimshaw Regional Healthcare Attraction and Retention Funding Request Council approved a slight increase in the annual funding the Village provides to the Grimshaw Regional Healthcare and Attraction Committee (GRHARC). The increase in funding helps cover operational costs for the Grimshaw Medical Clinic as part of the GRHARC Medical Clinic Rent Subsidy Program. The Village of Berwyn also provides funding to GRHARC to support the Healthcare Scholarship, which provides financial support to residents seeking to start a career in healthcare and encourages them to live and work in the region. Northern Sunrise County Letter of Support Council approved a request from Northern Sunrise County (NSC) for the Village of Berwyn to join NSC and other municipalities in advocating for a confirmed Invest Alberta visit to the Peace Region. Council directed administration to draft a letter to Dan Williams, MLA and Minister of Municipal Affairs, expressing the need for the visit and highlighting the importance of ensuring northern communities are fully considered in provincial investment planning. Village of Berwyn Temporary Designation Council approved designating Carol Haney, Finance Assistant for the Village of Berwyn, as the temporary emergency point of contact during the CAO’s vacation from December 4, 2025 to January 2, 2026. In CAO, Jatin Saini’s absence, Carol will assist with addressing urgent matters, coordinate follow-up with staff and external partners, and liaise with the Mayor and Deputy Mayor on any time-sensitive issues requiring Council consideration. Berwyn Municipal Library Agreement Council approved a new 10-year lease agreement with the Berwyn Municipal Library Board. The agreement includes the library’s use of the library room, the former arts and crafts centre room, and the shared common area. The agreement also outlines each party’s responsibilities for utilities, maintenance, insurance, and access. Bylaw/Animal Control Agreement Council approved entering into a new Bylaw Enforcement and Animal Control Services Agreement with Lee Crystal Wilson. The agreement outlines the responsibilities for bylaw enforcement, complaint response, patrols, animal capture and impound coordination, reporting requirements, and associated fees for providing these services within the Village. Pound Agreement with Mighty Peace Veterinary Clinic Council approved the Pound Care Agreement with the Mighty Peace Veterinary Clinic, which outlines requirements for daily animal care, kennel maintenance, discharge procedures, coordination with the Animal Control Officer, and associated care and euthanasia/surrender fees. Super Saturday in Berwyn Council discussed plans for Super Saturday taking place on Saturday, December 6, 2025, in Berwyn. Council extends gratitude to the Grimshaw and District Chamber of Commerce for spearheading this initiative and to Public Works for putting together a Village of Berwyn float for the parade. Festivities include a Christmas parade at noon, a bake sale at the library, cocoa and photos with Santa and glitter tattoos at the Golden Age Drop-In Centre, a Farmers’ Market at the Ag Hall, Christmas Open Houses at Fuel Up and Trinity Repair, a Turkey and Ham Bingo at the Elks Hall, gift card giveaway at the Thrift Store, and 10% off storewide at Kozy Korner Store.   • Year End Tax and Utility Payment Reminder

    NOTICE TO VILLAGE OF BERWYN RESIDENTS Re: Year-End Tax and Utility Payments Dear Residents, This is a reminder that all outstanding municipal taxes must be paid by December 31, 2025. Any unpaid balances after this date will be subject to an 18% penalty, in accordance with Village Bylaws. Please be advised that the Village Office will be CLOSED from December 23, 2025, to January 2, 2026 for the holiday season. This means residents will have until Monday, December 22, 2025, to make any in-person tax or utility payments before the office closes. Payments may still be made during the closure through the following methods: • Online banking (where available) • Mailed cheques (please allow sufficient delivery time) • The drop box located at the Village Office front entrance If you have any questions regarding your account or payment options, please contact the Village Office before December 22.   • New Financial Assistant for the Village of Berwyn

    Please join us in welcoming Carol Haney as the new Financial Assistant for the Village of Berwyn. Carol brings experience in customer service and a financial background, including 12 years in financial institutions and previous work in municipal government. Her experience in finance and public service will be an asset to our administrative team. Carol and her family are no strangers to Berwyn, having recently moved back to the area. They have long-standing ties to the community through her parents, who have lived here for more than 14 years, and through her grandparents, who were residents of the Berwyn Lodge and active in the local church. Over the years, her family has taken part in many local activities like skating at the arena, walking the trails, spending time downtown, and enjoying events such as outdoor movies, parades, and farmers' markets. They continue to stay involved in the community, including their daughter’s participation as a green belt in the Berwyn Tigers Taekwondo club. When asked what she looks forward to in the role, Carol shared that she appreciates Berwyn’s tight-knit community and is excited for the opportunity to learn more and continue expanding her skill set. She looks forward to working together toward the shared goal of helping the Village thrive and enjoys smaller work environments where strong, family-like relationships can be built. Carol and her husband live on an acreage just outside of Berwyn and have seven children, six grandchildren and many family pets. They enjoy spending time outside camping, quadding, snowmobiling, fishing, and boating. Welcome to the Village of Berwyn team, Carol!

    Mark your calendars - Super Saturday is making a comeback in Berwyn on December 6th. Festivities include a Christmas parade, a bake sale at the library, cocoa and photos with Santa and glitter tattoos at the Golden Age Drop-In Centre, a Farmers’ Market at the Ag Hall, Christmas Open Houses at Fuel Up and Trinity Repair, a Turkey and Ham Bingo at the Elks Hall, gift card giveaway at the Thrift Store, and 10% off storewide at Kozy Korner Store. The Village of Berwyn extends a sincere thank-you to the Grimshaw & District Chamber of Commerce  (GDCC) for spearheading this event. Chance Gerk, GDCC President, attended the Village of Berwyn's November Council Meeting to provide background and an update for new and returning Councillors on the supports and services GDCC provides, as well as the revival of Super Saturday. We are grateful for the ways they help make our Village a welcoming place to live and visit. Thank you for making this opportunity to come together possible.
