Job Overview
The Village of Berwyn is seeking a highly skilled, detail-oriented, and proactive individual to join our team as a Full-Time Municipal Financial Assistant. This position is essential to ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and efficiency of our municipal finances while providing exceptional service to residents and supporting the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).
This role requires strong bookkeeping, Microsoft Office proficiency, and a solid understanding of municipal finance procedures. We’re looking for someone who can do more than just “pay the bills”—you will play a key role in monitoring budgets, improving processes, and ensuring financial accountability.

Key Responsibilities

Perform full-cycle bookkeeping, including A/P, A/R, general ledger accounting, and monthly bank reconciliations.

Prepare and process payments, requisitions, and deposits (cash, debit, credit card, cheques, online banking, pre-authorized payments).

Administer payroll for employees and Council, including benefits, deductions, and year-end reporting.

Identify budget variances, manage taxation functions including billing, collections, penalties, agreements, and tax certificates.

Prepare and submit financial reports for CAO, Council, and Municipal Affairs.

Act as a trusted resource for financial questions, both internally and from the public.

Maintain compliance with GST rebate requirements and relevant legislation.

Use MuniWare/Catalis software for finance record management (training provided if needed).

Support Council meetings with financial updates and respond to finance-related inquiries.

Assist with property transactions, land title documentation, and inquiries from lawyers and residents.

Arrange staff travel and accommodation as required.

Qualifications
-
Must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in finance, accounting, or municipal administration.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) – advanced Excel skills preferred.

Strong knowledge of bookkeeping principles, municipal finance procedures & municipal taxes.

Familiarity with the Municipal Government Act (MGA) is an asset.

Experience with MuniWare / Catalis or other finance software is an asset.

Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines.

Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
