Is there something you have always wanted our village to do, to try doing? A project? An idea? Maybe there is a special kind of day, a small monument, a celebration, a program for seniors, for youth? With the resources of the village government and the support of other councilors, you can make it happen. It doesn’t even have to be a fully formed idea because on a creative, cooperative council like ours, just the seed of an idea can, when nurtured, flower and bear fruit.
Make New Friends
The current mayor and council could use some company and would enjoy making a new friend. Our mayor and council are a hard-working bunch but they are also a great, congenial group of people. By bringing your personality, experience, knowledge and priorities into local government, you can enrich that group and become part of a team of public servants. Unlike councils in cities, Berwyn council is not about opposing factions and political manoeuvring. It is about working with a team who share a love for Berwyn and a commitment to working together to make out community the best place it can be. These folks will help you learn the ropes, the basics of governing.
Give Back to Your Community
Ultimately, being a leader in municipal government does take work. It does take time. It involves a few sacrifices but everyone in Berwyn has benefited from the sacrifices our current and past councils have made. If you have enjoyed living in our village and appreciating its unspoiled, wholesome, democratic character, you can thank those leaders, past and present by taking a turn yourself.
