With warmer temperatures arriving, snow and ice are beginning to melt which can lead to increased water flow throughout the community. The Village of Berwyn Public Works is actively monitoring and working to support drainage and address areas where water may collect.

Residents can also play an important role in managing spring runoff by taking a few preventative steps around their property:

• Move snow away from your home to help keep water from pooling near the foundation

• Break openings in snowbanks to allow water to drain away more easily

• Make sure sump pumps are operating

It’s also a good time to review your household preparedness:

• Confirm your insurance coverage is current and documents are handy

• Keep a simple record of valuable items, including photos and video if possible

• Place important documents somewhere safe and elevated in your home

If you notice blocked drains, standing water, or areas of concern, please contact the Village office so they can be addressed as quickly as possible. Spring melt is a short but important season and a few small actions can make a big difference. The Village of Berwyn appreciates everyone’s cooperation during this time.
