To reduce speed levels and improve safety for pedestrians and drivers, Council approved installing trial speed bumps at the intersections of 55th Avenue and 50th Street, and 54th Avenue and 50th Street. Council also directed the Administration to provide pricing to convert the intersections at 49th Street and 50th Street, and 50th Street and 50th Avenue to four-way stops.

Outdoor Structure at Berwyn Park

Council approved the construction of a 20x22 outdoor structure at Berwyn Park with funding from the Local Government Financial Framework (LGFF) grant.

Directive Three Report

As a requirement in the Viability Review by Municipal Affairs, Council approved the update to the Village of Berwyn’s 2024 Action Plan.

Fallen Heroes Project

Council reviewed a listing provided by the Fallen Soldiers of Alberta that includes names of soldiers from the Berwyn area. Council directed administration to post the listing on the Village of Berwyn Facebook page to see if any residents recognize the names.

Public Works Report

Del Cardinal, Village of Berwyn Public Works Foreman, provided Council with an update that includes the hiring of a summer student, maintenance of green spaces, work to the Berwyn park, completion of the nine-hole disc golf course, and regular day-to-day work. Plans are underway to patch the road by the new park at the same time as the Mainstreet paving, and Public Works is waiting on quotes to resurface the tennis courts for possible use for pickleball.

Local Government Fiscal Framework Capital and Operating Program Agreements

Council moved to enter into the Local Government Fiscal Framework (LGFF) Capital & Operating Program Agreements. Signing these agreements secures essential funding for both capital and operating expenses, reducing the financial burden on local resources and enabling the Village to undertake significant infrastructure projects and maintain operational efficiency.

Commercial Driving School Grand Opening

Council appointed Councillor Tristan VanderKlok and Nicole Johnson to attend the Peace River School Division (PRSD) Driving Academy’s Grand Opening Celebration on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at the PRSD Central Operations building in Grimshaw.
