Council Welcomes New CAO

Council officially welcomed Michael Geoghegan as the Village’s new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). Michael brings extensive experience in municipal administration, economic development, government and the private sector. He looks forward to working with Council, staff, residents and local businesses to support the Village and its future.

Audit Report

Cheri Peterson from Meyers Norris Penny presented the findings of the audit of the Village of Berwyn’s 2025 Financial Statements. Cheri provided Council with an overview of the audit, answered questions and thanked Village staff for their support throughout the process.

Bylaw Enforcement Services

Council approved an adjustment to the Village’s bylaw enforcement contract, increasing service from four hours per week to between four and eight hours per week. The change will provide additional capacity for bylaw enforcement services as needed.

Truck Purchase Approval

Council approved the purchase of a 2007 Dodge 2500 diesel truck for Public Works for up to $16,000, funded through the Village of Berwyn’s Local Government Fiscal Framework (LGFF) grant funding. LGFF is a Government of Alberta grant program that provides municipalities with funding for local infrastructure and capital projects.

Councillor Resignation

Council accepted the resignation of Councillor Jane Weber, effective August 22, 2026. Council thanked Jane for her service and contributions to the Village of Berwyn during her time on Council and expressed appreciation for the time and commitment she dedicated to representing residents and serving the community.

Communication Services

Council discussed the transition of the Village’s communications services following the resignation of Communications Consultant Vanessa Burns, effective September 1, 2026. Council thanked Vanessa for her service to the Village and wished her well. Communications professional Stewart Burnett has been retained to provide communications services moving forward.

Regional Appeal Board Appointment

Council approved the appointment of Mercedes Doiron representing the Town of Fairview to the Peace Regional Subdivision and Development Appeal Board for a three-year term. The regional board hears appeals related to subdivision and development decisions.

Public Meeting

A public engagement meeting will be held on September 15, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at the Berwyn Agriculture Hall. The meeting will give residents an opportunity to connect with Council, ask questions, share feedback, discuss concerns and contribute ideas for the community’s future. All residents are encouraged to attend.

Resident Request

Council approved a resident request to rent the Village-owned compound behind the Fire Hall for $100 per month, with lawn maintenance included as part of the rental arrangement.
