🖊️ Jatin Saini Appointed as Acting CAO
Council appointed Jatin Saini as Acting CAO, effective August 28, 2024. Jatin has been with the Village since mid-June in finance and administration. Council also approved the creation of a Finance Assistant position to help with the transition and distribution of work.
🖊️ CAO Recognition
Council expressed appreciation to Matthew Norbern, Village of Berwyn CAO, for his contributions to the Village and his efforts in advancing the community. They acknowledged his ability to think outside the box and thanked him for his dedication and hard work. Matthew will transition to a CAO position in Hanna, Alberta, with his last day with the Village being August 27th.
🖊️ Subdivision of Village Property
Council approved the first reading of a proposal to subdivide the property at 5102-50 Avenue, located behind the Village Administration Office. This subdivision will facilitate the sale of the land, which is no longer in use. The property, formerly used by the Berwyn Fire Department, is surplus due to the fire department's merger with the MD of Peace’s Lac Cardinal Fire Department. A public hearing on this proposal will be held at 6:30 p.m. on September 12, 2024, at the Village Administration Office, prior to the regular Council meeting.
🖊️ Nurse Practitioner Attraction Policy
Council approved the Nurse Practitioner (NP) Policy, which outlines the eligibility criteria, application process, and recruitment incentives designed to attract NPs to Berwyn. During the July Council meeting, Council reviewed a proposal to recruit an NP to live and work in the community and directed the administration to develop a policy focused on this initiative. Attracting a Nurse Practitioner aims to address gaps in regional healthcare services, improve health outcomes, and enhance residents' quality of life.
🖊️ Land Use Bylaw Amendment
Council approved amendments to Land Use Bylaw No. 716. The changes introduce definitions for "Community Hall/Facility," "Community Garden," and "Indoor Recreation Facility" and designate them as permitted uses in the Parks and Recreation District. Additionally, the amendments involve redistricting certain areas from General Residential District (R-G) to Public Recreational Districts to meet the growing need for public recreational spaces in the Village.
🖊️ Public Works Appreciation
Council expressed appreciation to the Public Works department for their efforts over the summer with a small team and increased responsibilities for various projects and events in the community. Council noted that their dedication to improving the Village is clearly evident in their work.
🖊️ Recreation Equipment Policies
Council approved the adoption of a Recreation Equipment Rental Policy that outlines the terms and conditions related to renting the Village of Berwyn’s recreation equipment.
🖊️ ATCO Franchise Fee
Council approved increasing the ATCO franchise fee from 6% to 8%, aligning with municipalities similar to the Village of Berwyn.
🖊️ Credit Card Reward Policy Council approved a policy regarding the use of the Village of Berwyn credit card points. The policy directs that accumulated points be used for costs associated with the staff Christmas event and gifts. It establishes clear guidelines for the tracking, approval, and redemption of points to ensure systematic and transparent use.
