Your Village of Berwyn Council is made up of neighbours who care deeply about our community and play an important role in shaping local decisions.

To help residents get to know the people behind those decisions, over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing short profiles of each Councillor. We hope this helps residents feel more connected to the work of Council and the people who represent them.

Our first feature is 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘂, 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝘂𝘁𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗿, and this is his first term on Council.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗩𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺?

Seeing the different business offers in town showed me that this is a place people want to live. Having lived in different parts of the province, I felt I could provide insight into attracting more businesses and families. I would also like to thank the previous Council for their time and work for the community. My hope is to support thoughtful, community-minded decisions that continue building Berwyn’s potential.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗲𝗿𝘄𝘆𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆?

After deciding to leave our farm, my wife Paula and I toured the area looking for a new home. In Berwyn, we found a drugstore, a bank, a post office, a library, various clubs, and — most importantly — the friendliness of the community. The community at large has been warm and welcoming, with no shortage of activities. Paula and I have always felt at home here.

𝗢𝘂𝘁𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹, 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳

I have been retired for over three years, following a 20-year career with Grande Prairie Regional College (now Northwestern Polytechnic). Before living in Berwyn, I served in various roles with the Whitelaw Agricultural Society. Currently, I am a Director with the Berwyn Golden Age Society and enjoy spending time there—coffee is on at 10 a.m. Monday through Friday. My hobbies include camping, fishing, wood character carving and supporting Paula in her artistic endeavors as required.
